The local UI, the web app and the terminal

Where films are made, where they are shared, and when to use each.

Showreel Studio has three places to work. The label at the top left of each page says where you are: On this Mac or Online.

The local UI: On this Mac

showreel ui in a project folder opens it at http://127.0.0.1:4321. It runs on your Mac and works on the files in that folder. Nothing in it is hosted.

Use it to make things: connect apps, write and edit storyboards, voice, record, build, check frames, edit decks and kits, and build prototypes. Whatever it does, the terminal could have done, and the logs are the same.

The web app: Online

app.showreelstudio.app/app, signed in with the same account. It is shared by everyone in your organisation.

Use it to share and run things:

• Recordings: films shared from Macs and cloud recordings, with comments, reviews and logs.
• Links: published films and decks, and who watched them.
• Audiences: your organisation's rules on what each audience may see.
• Kits: the brand kits your organisation shares.
• Organisation: people, roles, the licence and writing settings.
• Account: you, your usage and your own voices.

To open the web app already signed in from the local UI, use the web app button in the left rail. See Open the web app from your Mac.

The terminal and Claude Code

Every step is a showreel command, so you can script it or run it in CI. In Claude Code, the plugin's skills run the whole film for you and fix what goes wrong. See Use it from Claude Code.
