Share a film for review

Put a film you built on your Mac into the web app, so colleagues can watch, comment and pass or fail it.

Most films are built on your Mac. Sharing sends the finished film to the web app without recording it again, so everyone in your organisation can review it.

Before you start

In the app

  1. Open the film in the local app.
  2. Press Share for review in the top bar. It shows once the film is built and there are no unsaved changes. The same button is under Files, in the Cloud section.
  3. When it is done, the link is in Files, under Cloud. Press open in the web app to go to it.

In the terminal

It prints the film's address in the web app. Add --open to open it straight away on a Mac.

What is sent

Every cut (wide, square, vertical, portrait), the verify report, each segment's first and last frame, the contact sheet, the subtitles and transcript, a walkthrough if you made one, and the storyboard. A single file can be up to 30 MB, and the whole film up to 250 MB.

In the web app

The film appears on the Recordings page with a shared chip. It has the same Film, Storyboard, Review and Log tabs as a cloud recording, except that:

  • Its Storyboard tab is read-only. Change the words on your Mac, build, and share again.
  • It has no Run again.

Share again after a rebuild and the new recording is marked a new version.

For an audience

To share the cut made for one audience, use the film's Audiences panel, or:

showreel share compose --for sales

The recording shows who it is for and whether it passed that audience's check.
