Publish a film at a link

Give a film a link for your organisation or for anyone, which always plays the version you published last.

Publishing gives a film a share link that plays it on a page made for watching. A film keeps one link, so a newer version never needs a new one.

Before you start

The film is in the web app, shared for review or recorded in the cloud, and it finished.

In the web app

  1. Open the recording from Recordings. On the Film tab, find the Publish card.
  2. Choose who can open it: Your organisation or Anyone with the link.
  3. Press Publish and get the link.

The card then shows Published, the link with Copy, Copy embed, Views and Open. You can change who can open it from the same list later.

In the terminal

showreel share compose --publish

This shares the film and publishes it: for your organisation the first time, and with the link's current setting after that. Use --publish public for anyone, which works only for a cut that may be public (below).

Who can open it

  • Your organisation: people signed in to your organisation. A signed-out visitor is asked to sign in, then comes back to the film.
  • Anyone with the link: only for a cut made for an audience outside the company, whose rules let it be public, and which passed that audience's check. See Which cuts can be public. Making a link public is for owners and admins.

A film has one link for each audience it is cut for, so a sales cut and an internal cut never share a link. Decks work the same way.

Publish a newer version

  1. Open the newer recording. The Publish card says the link plays another version, and who published it when.
  2. Press Publish this version and confirm.

Everyone with the link sees the new version from then on. The link's address and its views stay the same.

What the page shows

The film with subtitles, its other cuts, a transcript, its lines as chapters that jump to each moment, and a walkthrough if one was made. The organisation's name shows unless it contains an email address.
