Share a kit with your organisation

Make a kit your organisation's, so every project and machine films in the same brand, and withdraw it again.

An organisation kit lives on the service rather than in one project. Every project and every machine signed in to your organisation can use it, and updates reach everyone without anyone having to fetch them.

Before you start

  • You are an owner or admin of the organisation. See Roles.
  • The kit is one of your project's own kits, in its kits/ folder.

Share a kit

In the app

  1. Open Kits.
  2. On the kit's card, press Share with organisation, then confirm.

In the terminal

Each share gets a new version number. Sharing again replaces the organisation's copy.

How it reaches everyone

  • When Showreel Studio runs on a signed-in machine, it checks the organisation's kits if it has not done so in the last ten minutes, and fetches a kit again when its version has changed.
  • On a machine, an organisation kit is read-only. To change it, duplicate it to a project, edit it, and share it again.
  • A cloud recording sends the kit with the job.
  • An organisation kit with the same id as a Showreel Studio kit is used in its place.

The web app's Kits page lists your organisation's kits first, marked your organisation, with the version, when it was shared and by whom.

Withdraw a kit

  • In the web app: open Kits and press Withdraw on the kit.
  • In the terminal:
showreel kits withdraw acme

Limits

  • All the kit's files together (logo, cursor, fonts) must be under 10 MB.
  • Only owners and admins can share or withdraw. Anyone else sees "only an owner or admin of the organisation can change its kits".
