How views are counted
Share-link views are counted with random ids, with no address, account or cookie kept.
The Links page shows how a published film or deck is watched without knowing who watched it.
What the player sends
While someone watches a film at its link, the player sends the service, every few seconds:
- A random id for this play, made fresh each time the page opens.
- A random id for the browser, kept in the browser's own storage, so a second play from the same browser counts as the same viewer.
- How far into the film the play has got, the film's length, and whether it reached the end.
- For an embed, that it was embedded, and the name of the site it was on.
For a deck, it sends how far through the slides the viewer got instead.
What is not kept
- No IP address.
- No account, even when the viewer is signed in.
- No cookie.
So the numbers say how many plays and viewers a link had, and how far they got, but never who they were.
