Check a film before you share it

Read the automatic checks, look at the contact sheet, and pass or fail each shot against what it should show.

Every build checks the film automatically. Then you judge each shot yourself, by comparing its frames with what the line said it would show. Together they catch a film that sounds wrong, shows the wrong screen or leaks something it should not.

The automatic checks

Every build runs these, on the wide cut and on each other shape:

  • No marker frames leaked: the markers recorded at the start of each line never show in the film.
  • Loudness on target: within one unit (LUFS) of the kit's loudness.
  • No long silences: no gap in the body longer than the kit allows.
  • Sound and picture the same length, so the voice does not drift.
  • Nothing unmasked: no personal data a mask should have caught. See Hide names, emails and figures.

The result is written to the film's out/verify.json. In the app, the top bar shows Verified or Problems with the film's length, and each problem is printed in the log with what to change.

The contact sheet

A build also makes a contact sheet: frames from across the film on one picture, for a look at the whole film at once. In the app it is on the Files panel under Contact sheet.

Pass or fail each shot

In the app

  1. Open the film and click a line on the timeline.
  2. On the Line panel, look at its Frames: the start and end of the shot, beside its Expect.
  3. Click Pass or Fail. For a Fail, write what is wrong in the note below.
  4. Move to the next line with the → key.

Each clip on the timeline shows its verdict. The verdicts are saved in the film's review.json.

In the web app

A recording's Review tab shows each shot's first and last frame beside what it should show, including the open and close. Pass it, or fail it with a note. Anyone in your organisation can review, and the page shows who gave each verdict. Bring the verdicts back to your project with showreel cloud pull. See Follow and manage cloud recordings.
