Edit a storyboard

Change the words, the actions and the checks of each line on the film's page, then save.

A film's page in the app is where you edit its storyboard. The timeline along the bottom shows every line as a clip; the inspector on the right shows the selected line or the film's settings.

Before you start

In the app

  1. Open Films and click the film.
  2. Click a clip on the timeline to select its line. The Line panel opens with its fields.
  3. Edit what you need: the voice-over, Written (for the page), Does, Expect, Steps, Caption, framing, callout, headline and cut hints.
  4. Watch the count under the voice-over. It shows the syllables and roughly how long the line takes to say. See Pace and rushed lines.
  5. Move to other lines as you like. Your edits are kept, and the top bar shows Unsaved.
  6. Press ⌘S, or click Save storyboard in the top bar.

Adding, moving and removing lines

  • + Line on the timeline adds a line after the selected one.
  • The ← and → buttons on the Line panel move the line earlier or later.
  • Remove deletes the line. A film needs at least one.

The film's own settings

The Film panel has the Title, Title size, Output name, Kit, App address, if not the profile's, What a build makes and Masking. Choosing a Kit there sets the project's kit, used by every film that does not name its own. After changing it, make the open, close and voice again; the footage stays.

Getting around

  • Space plays and pauses the film, once it is built.
  • The ← and → keys move between lines.
  • ⌘K opens the command palette: go to any film or deck, run a stage, or add a line.

If you leave the film with unsaved changes, the app asks before discarding them.

In the terminal or Claude Code

The storyboard is the file films/<film>/storyboard.json. You can edit it in any editor, or ask Claude in Claude Code to change it. The app shows the change when you next open the film.

Starting again

A film nobody has voiced, recorded or approved yet shows Discard draft in the top bar, which removes its folder. Delete this film on the Film panel removes any film, with everything in it, after asking you to confirm.
